HILDA LAGE (nee REDEKOP) It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother Hilda Lage at Riverview Health Centre on December 3, 2007, at the age of 78 years. Hilda was born on June 29, 1929, in Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg. She was the fifth child born to Johann and Maria Redekop (nee Peters). Hilda had a happy childhood growing up in North Kildonan with her brothers and sisters. She received her high school education at Springstein, Gretna, and finished Grade 12 at MBCI, in Winnipeg. Hilda was a lifelong member of the North Kildonan Mennonite church. She served the congregation as pianist for many years. While in high school Hilda had already begun her career as a piano teacher and continued to do so in her home after her marriage. When Lage Brothers Pianos was founded, Hilda taught piano in her studio, associated with the family business. She continued giving lessons until her retirement. Hilda enjoyed vegetable gardening, her flower garden, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, reading and her family. Her passion was to make her children feel special and very much loved. She was devoted and dedicated to her family. Hilda married Leonard Lage on April 26, 1952. Theirs was the first marriage performed in the newly constructed basement of the North Kildonan Mennonite Church. Hilda was predeceased by her parents Johann and Maria Redekop, her three brothers, John, Isaak and Frank, and her youngest sister Heidi. She leaves to mourn her loving husband Leonard of 55 years; her beloved children, Charles (Karen), Heidi, Leonard; her cherished grandchildren, Stephan, Lynnsie, Levi, Matthew, Lorelei and Allison. She is survived by one sister, Susan Schindle, her sisters-in-law, Dagmar Redekop and Margaret Redekop, in-laws, Rudy and Louise Lage and Beate Lage and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. The family extends their gratitude and appreciation to family and friends for their thoughts and prayers and to the staff at the Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate care. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Hilda's life will be held Thursday, December 6 at 10:30 a.m., in North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch Street. Interment will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in the memory of Hilda Lage may be made to The Movement Centre of Manitoba, 1646 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R2G 1N7.
