MATTHEW PAUL EDWARD HOWER October 15, 1999 - December l, 2007 Peacefully on December 1, 2007, in the loving arms of his parents, Matthew became one of God's angels at the tender age of 8. Matthew was a dynamo of energy, enthusiasm and joi de vivre. Throughout his four and a half year battle with neuroblastoma he chose not to complain but rather to face life and his illness head on. More than anything, he loved time spent with family, friends and especially his classmates at St. Ignatius School. His motto was make a friend a day. He participated passionately in a multitude of sports, amazing all who knew him with his boundless energy and competitive spirit. Time spent in treatment only seemed to fuel his enthusiasm and his drive. We will miss his infectious laughter, his beautiful smile and his gentle hands. Matthew will be so greatly missed by his parents, Tim and Mary and sister Lauren, grandparents, Louise Smendziuk, Pat Hower and Tom Munroe, Uncle Rob and Auntie Pam (Kayla, Lindsey), Auntie Marcia (Caton, Kelsey, Seth, Liam), Auntie Laura and Uncle Stephane (Lucas, Olivia), Auntie Marla and Uncle Terry (Julia, Jacob) as well as many great aunts, uncles, cousins and wonderful friends. Matthew was predeceased by his grandfathers Paul Hower and Ed Smendziuk. We would like to thank Dr. Sara Israels and the Pediatric Oncology Team at CancerCare Manitoba, the pediatric nurses at CancerCare; Cathy, Jenny and Wanda, the nursing staff on CK5 at Children's Hospital, Dawn and Hubert the clown from the Child Life Department. You are all simply the best. We also wish to extend our deepest appreciation to the countless number in our community of supporters who kept us in their hearts and prayers throughout this journey. There will be a celebration of Matthew's life at St. Ignatius Church, 255 Stafford Street, on Thursday, December 6, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Matthew's memory to The Pediatric Oncology Department at CancerCare Manitoba or to St. Ignatius School, 239 Harrow St., Winnipeg, MB.
