Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDORIS MARGARET BREESE (née BROWNING) It is with sadness but in celebration of a life well lived that the family of Doris Margaret Breese announces her passing on Thursday, November 29, 2007. Doris was predeceased by her mother Grace in 1960, her father Robert in 1968, her husband, Alan in 1980 and her brother Robert in 2004. Doris was the proud and loving mother of Jenny (Chris Greensmith) and Nanny of Emma (Chris), Sarah, Iain (Jenny) and David. Doris was thrilled to become the Great Nanny of Nicholas this past May. In addition to her Canadian family she leaves her friend and sister-in-law Gill in Switzerland, and nephews and nieces in England. Born in 1916, Doris spent a happy and carefree childhood in Alexandria, Egypt before returning to England where she met and married Alan, the love of her life in 1940. Doris supported her mother in London during the war years, doing bank work by day and war work by night, always alerted to air raids in advance of the sirens by Vic the dog. Reunited in 1946, Doris and Alan lived in England and in Germany in the course of Royal Air Force tours of duty before finally settling in Bexhill-on-Sea in Sussex. There Doris developed a lifelong interest in Guiding and friendships that continued internationally through the Trefoil Guild. After emigrating from England in 1983 to join her family in Winnipeg, Doris became a devoted and hard-working member of the Parish Church of St. Luke, joining the company of Jonahs and co-convening the late and lamented Whale. She loved to learn, and completed a Certificate in Pastoral Care from the University in Winnipeg and the four year Education For Ministry Program. She was honoured to be appointed as a Lay Reader at St. Luke's, and took her duties seriously. Doris will be sadly missed by her family and friends in Ontario and the many friends and neighbours who were her Winnipeg family. She also leaves her longtime canine companion, Tuppence. Special thanks go to Father Bob Brownlie and his wife Myrna, Arthur Moore and Margaret Mulholland, Diane Pinuta and Rosaline Pachal. A memorial service will be held at St. Luke's Anglican Church in Winnipeg on Saturday, December 8 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. As she had requested, Doris' ashes will be laid to rest alongside those of her husband on the north wall of the ancient Parish Church of St. Mary's Addington in England where Doris and Alan were married. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, friends who wish may send memorial donations to the Parish Church of St. Luke towards the Parish Hospitality and other Community Outreach programs, to Save the Children, or to the charity of their choice.
