DOUGLAS PAUL OWEN It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Douglas Paul Owen aged 62 years, whose life was tragically taken on November 29, 2007, at Ferguson Lake, Nunavut. A memorial service will be held at St. John's United Church in Thompson, Manitoba, on Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. King officiating. Friends may call at the Swan Valley Funeral Home on Thursday, December 6, 2007 between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on December 7, 2007 at United Church in Swan River, Manitoba with Rev. Wenstob officiating. Interment to follow in the Swan River Cemetery. Born in Wellington, Sommerset, England on April, 8, 1945. Doug came to Canada in 1956 with his mother and brothers, Geoffrey and Maxwell, and resided in the Minitonas, Manitoba area, where he went to school and worked for various farmers. He met his wife, Rose, in 1968 at Co-Op where they both worked. They were married on May 16, 1970. Doug began working for Midwest Drilling in the Fall of 1968 He will be missed by his wife of 37 years, Rose; son Vincent, daughter-in-law Natalie and grandson Oliver of Grand Rapids, Michigan; daughter Marnie Owen (Darrell Randell) of Winnipeg; sister Denise (Don) Lee of England; brother Nick (Pat) of England; brother Steve (Sue) of England; brother Max (Shirley) of Flin Flon and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and England. He was predeceased by his brother Geoffrey in 1967, his father Richard in 1978 and his mother Audrey in 1993. Doug was a man's man. He believed that hard work was a way of life. He dedicated a total of 38 years to Major/Midwest Drilling, and considered his coworkers as family. He loved what he did and gave his life doing it. Doug loved his family and enjoyed visiting with them. He was especially overjoyed when his grandson, Oliver Sage, entered into his life this year.
