Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLGA BAYDACK (ZADOROZNY) Olga Baydack, aged 92, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2007 at St. Boniface Hospital. Olga was predeceased by her loving husband Millan, and her father and mother, Anthony and Mary Zadorozny. Born on December 7, 1914 in Killarney, Manitoba, Olga came to Winnipeg with her family shortly thereafter. She married Millan Baydack on June 5, 1937 and they shared their lives together in North End and North Winnipeg until Millan's untimely death in 1966. Her husband's early departure was tragic. However, Olga gathered up her strength, persevered, and embarked on a new journey. She moved to Chalfont Road in Charleswood. She secured a position with Eaton's at Polo Park fabric department where she enjoyed working for over 15 years. Upon retirement in her early 70s, she joined and was active with the Eaton's Retirement Club. In her youth, Olga's favourite activities included skating with her girl friends at the Bulldogs community rink and camping trips to Seven Sisters Falls and Kenora, Ontario. At the Bulldogs, with the fishing skills of a young lady, she hooked the catch of her life, Millan Baydack. Then came love and marriage, motherhood and many good times at their family built cottages, first at Grand Beach and later at Falcon Lake. She treasured family gatherings at the lake with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for over 40 years. She enjoyed fishing, hiking, berry picking and swimming until age 90. Another great love was cooking her special dishes for family gatherings, especially for the traditional Ukrainian Christmas Eve and Easter celebrations, in which she took tremendous pride and everyone thoroughly enjoyed. While living in North Winnipeg, Olga was an active member of ladies groups at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Parish and C.U.A.C. (Canadian Ukrainian Athletic Club). Upon moving to Charleswood, she became a member of the Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Parish. In her later years, she traveled to many parts of the world with church and retirement groups as well as with her family. She especially enjoyed visiting her family in Ottawa, Edmonton and Vancouver, Olga's inspiration lives on in her children: her daughter Donna Bobey (Nickolas), son Leonard (Luise), son Donald (Gerri), and son Rick; 11 grandchildren, (Kenneth, Katherine, Keith, Donald, Krista, Natalie, Karina, Rich, Angie, Ryan and Micki); 17 great-grandchildren (Victoria, Alexander, Shane, Shawn, Emma, Kate, Bradley, Christine, Sydney, Eric, Sahara, Jemma, Toby, Astrid, Sarah, Leah and Taycen). Lorraine Baydack and many extended family members will also fondly remember her. Her greatest strength was the never-ending love that she showed for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren that always shone through and inspired us all. Goodbye Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma. You taught us how to live with pride, dignity and a hard work ethic. You will be sadly missed by all of us. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday December 7, 2007 at Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1001 Grant Avenue, Winnipeg with Rev. Fr. Mark Gnutel officiating. Following Divine Liturgy, relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of reflection, fellowship and a light lunch in the church parish hall. At a later date and following cremation, a family only private interment will take place at Brookside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Bobey, Rich Baydack, Allen Ludlam, David Zacharias, Dennis Kozak and Robert Phillip. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the Manitoba Down Syndrome Society. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at both Beacon Hill Lodge and Wing 5E of St. Boniface Hospital where Olga spent her last days.
