STEPHANIE MAE GELMYCH (nee SHKOLNY) Peacefully on December 2, 2007, Stephanie fell asleep in the Lord at the age of 81 at the Victoria General Hospital. She was predeceased by her father Alexander, mother Michaelina (nee Semchyshyn), husband John, brothers, Michael and Walter, sister Anne (Wardale), and daughter Diana (McLay). She leaves to mourn her daughters, Judy Kapty (Russell), Stephanie Mazur (Lawrence) and Cheryle Cote (Howard), son-in-law John McLay, grandchildren, Ted, Michael (Rosemarie), and Uliana (Gordon) Kapty, and John McLay, great-grandsons, Lukian and Markian Kapty, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a very wonderful circle of friends who were always there for her, especially on her final day. Stephanie was born in Winnipeg on May 22, 1926, and grew up in the North End. She attended Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral and later attended Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Mary the Protectress with her family. She worked very hard in building management and eventually worked in retail for Donald Drugs and the Ukrainian House of Gifts. She also volunteered for the Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre Gift Shop, and UNF St. Boniface Bingo. She spent a lot of her time playing bingo, going to The Bay, and meeting her friends at Sals or The Fyxx for coffee. Stephie enjoyed life, living it to the fullest while adding laughter, colour and sparkle. She loved her family and spent a lot of time watching and helping her grandchildren grow while encouraging them in their activities and lives. She was a fantastic cook who loved baking and ensured that everyone had a Paska at Easter. In 1994, she was featured in a Japanese newspaper demonstrating Ukrainian cooking with buckwheat. She also loved spending time with her friends since they held a special place in her heart and meant a lot to her. In her love of Ukrainian music and culture, she was a long time supporter of the O. Koshetz Choir and the Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre. Prayers will be sung Friday, December 7, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main Street. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 8, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at Korban Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Fr. Jaroslaw Buciora. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Cemetery, 4477 Main Street. Pallbearers will be Michael Shkolny, Martin Gelmych, John Kozelko, Glen Muzyka, Michael Haack, and Boris Demchenko. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Young and the caring staff on the 5th floor of the Victoria General Hospital for their kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the P. Macenko Chair of Ukrainian Church Music Foundation at St. Andrew's College. Vichnaya Pamyat! Memory Eternal!
