Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS (TOM) BARNETT It is with sorrow in our hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Tom Barnett, our husband, father, grandfather and brother and uncle at the age of 59 years. He left with his loving family at his bedside on November 30, 2007, at Selkirk District Hospital. He was born and raised in Winnipeg, meeting the love of his life, Marlyne, there. They were wed in 1971 and spent the next 36 years together. They started a family in 1975 in Fort McMurray, AB, where they had moved to pursue Tom's career as a heavy duty mechanic on mining trucks for Great Canadian Oil Sands. After returning to Winnipeg their family grew with the birth of their second son. Tom worked several jobs and settled his career on the justice system. He worked at Knowles Centre, helping troubled youth, moving on to the Department Of Justice, where he became a highly respected correctional officer until his untimely departure. Tom believed in family and was the first one to offer help when he could. He gave generously to all those around him, whether it was small talk to make you smile, advice when you were lost or a helping hand if you were in need. He truly loved his family, shining for them in the toughest moments. He was a devoted father and a loving husband, always there for us. He never backed down from a challenge and demonstrated this on numerous occasions for his children, grandchildren and parents. Tom's morals were a great example for us and his patience guided us to be better people. We thank you for this and it is our sincere hope you know how important you were in our lives and that we loved you. Thank you for blessing us with so many happy memories. Tom was predeceased by his parents, William and Mae Barnett; parents-in-law, John and Mary Park; in-laws, John Park and Hazel (George) Babyski; leaving to mourn, his wife Marlyne; children, Shane (Fariya) and Chad (Jewel) Barnett; grandchildren, Donnie, Brennon, Kaitlyn, Alexis, Emily, Ethan and Joshua; siblings, Donna Barnett, Wayne (Irma) Barnett, Ken (Linda) Barnett, Shirley (Dave) McMullen, Rob (Sherrie) Barnett, Gail (Greg) Tomczak, Micheal Barnett, Sean Barnett, Carey (Cherie) Barnett; numerous nieces and nephews, numerous other friends and relatives.
