Les and Helen raised their family in Camp Robertson, Northern Ontario and Winnipeg where Helen taught elementary and junior high school for 20 years. She enjoyed continuing friendships with many of her former students. After a brief time in Montreal, Helen and Les retired back to Winnipeg where they welcomed their expanding family every summer at Les' Loft, West Hawk Lake. Grandma's blueberry pancakes and hermit cookies were legendary! Helen had a special nurturing relationship with everyone of her grand and great-grandchildren. She and Les enjoyed numerous overseas trips making and renewing many friendships at POW and Squadron reunions. Helen had many interests including: volunteering for 20 years at Victoria General Hospital in the Reach for Recovery and Cancermount programs; singing in the St. Vital United Church choir; and contributing in the UCW. She enjoyed her Scibblers Writing Group and expressed her passion for watercolors in the St. Vital Art Group, of which she was one of the original members. The family wish to thank all her devoted friends for their love and support. Mom received wonderful care from Dr. Lecuyer, Dr. Garcia, Dr. Mike Van Vliet, the staff of 3East at Riverview Hospital and the nurses from Palliative Care. A special thank you to Dr. Ian Maxwell at Victoria General Hospital for many years of attentive care and friendship. A celebration of Helen's life will be held at Meadowood United Church, 1111 Dakota St. on Monday, December 10 at 1:00 p.m. A new tree planted in Helen's memory, when practical, would fulfill her wish or a donation to Victoria General Hospital Oncology Fund would be appreciated.

Helen was just one of my favourite people in the world. She was a blessing to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will be sadly missed by all her family. She always had time for a cup of tea and a chat. Thinking of all of you in your loss of dear Helen. - Posted by: J ean Terry Rudge (Friend) on: Dec 11, 2007
