Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELINOR MARTIN BROWN (DONNELLY) Peacefully on Wednesday, December 5, 2007, Elinor Brown passed away at Victoria General Hospital. Elinor will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Hunter, daughters Peggy Hanuschak and Jean Skromeda and granddaughters Lynne and Lisa (Joel). She was predeceased by her sister Margaret, brother Norman and brother-in-law, John Brown. The eldest of three, Elinor was born December 24, 1915 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and spent the first three years of her life in Elbow, Saskatchewan, where her father was the minister at the Presbyterian Church. She then moved with her family to Winnipeg and spent the rest of her life in St. Vital. Elinor was only 12 when her mother passed away, leaving her to care for her younger siblings, so it was early on that she became a family caregiver, something she would continue to do for her whole life. She met Hunter as a teenager at St. Vital United Church and they were married there in 1942. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past June. Elinor was a board member of the St. Vital Public Library and an active member of the UCW at St. Vital United. She also played the piano and organ at church as she was very musical. After their daughters were born, Elinor and Hunter moved to River Road and spent many happy years there until the late 1970s. They then moved to Elinor's childhood home on Nichol Avenue where they spent time in their back yard pool and garden with their granddaughters. In 1990 they moved to a condo on St. Anne's Road. Elinor and Hunter loved to travel with friends and took several trips across North America and overseas and enjoyed winters in the warm climates of Hawaii, Texas and the Caribbean. Elinor's favourite pastimes were cooking, baking and entertaining. She will be remembered especially for her oatmeal squares and chocolate crinkle cookies. She was also a very talented knitter - her family always appreciated the warmth of the slippers, hats, scarves and mitts and each of her family members will cherish the afghans she made for them with love. Elinor was an elegant and classy lady, beautiful both inside and out. A loving, compassionate and caring person, she was full of love that she shared with her family and friends. Her family meant the world to her and we were lucky to have her. We will miss her greatly. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue, Aubrey Street entrance. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
