MICHAEL JOHN CARR After a lengthy illness, Michael Carr died with dignity with his family present on December 6, 2007 at Grace Hospital. Michael (Miko) John Carr is survived by his wife Alice Ruth Metcalfe; sons, Michael (Cheryl), Bill (Heather), Jack (Mariella); five grandchildren, Brody, Sean, (Bill and Heather), Meghan, Kaitlyn and Emily (Jack and Mariella); two step-grandchildren, Tammy (Ron Smithman) and Chadwick (Keri Jensen) as well as many other extended family members who held a special place in his heart. Also surviving are sisters, Mary (Alfie Hannon), Ann (Paddy Stewart), Agatha, and Ellen (Brendan and Dolan), all in Ireland and sister Teresa (Dick Lynch) of England; also many nieces, nephews and cousins, in Ireland, England and the United States; and one aunt Delia Callanan of Kinvara, Co. Galway, Ireland. Mike is predeceased by his parents Michael and Mary Carr, and one brother Gerry (Carmel) all of Killomoran, Gort, Co. Galway, Ireland, and two sisters, Bernadette (David Virgo) of England, Margaret (Martin Kenny) of Carnmore, Oranmore, Co. Galway, Ireland, and many uncles and aunts in Ireland. Michael left Ireland for Canada on the ship Ivernia in 1959 arriving on May 2,1959 at Montreal, Quebec and he continued by train to Winnipeg where he worked for The CNR Telegraph Lines until June 1961 when he went by ship to Australia. He worked there for about one year at which time he returned to Canada and was employed by INCO in the Thompson Refinery from June 1962 until he retired in December 1992. Michael and Ruth were married in January 1964 at Thompson, Manitoba. They remained in Thompson until 2003 at which time they moved to Winnipeg. Viewing will be held on Monday, December 10 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with prayers at 4:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, December 11 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, 271 Hampton Street with interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
