ARSENE PETER THIENPONDT 1927 - 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arsene (Pete) at St. Boniface Hospital on December 6, 2007. He will be sadly missed by wife of 60 years Angele nee Standaert; sons, Marnix (Char), Erik (Dorothy); six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Diana Thienpondt and family in Belgium, Lillian (Adrian) Van Den Broecke and family in Belgium; brother-in-law Gilbert (Marie) Standaert and family in Belgium, nieces, nephews, cousins and his many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Cyriel and Clara; brother-in-law Julien DeSmet and nephew Ludo DeSmet. Arsene was born August 18, 1927 in Boekhoute, Belgium. He immigrated to Canada in 1953 along with his wife and two sons. He was employed at Olgive Flour mills for 14 years before he took on the position of Hosler for CNR at Symington Yards. He retired from the railroad in 1991. He enjoyed his retirement and spent many happy days fishing with his good buddies George and Dave on the Red River. He was a long time member of the Norwood Legion and the Belgium Club where he could be found Belgium Bowling most Tuesday and Friday evenings. He was also a member of the St. Sebastian Archery Club for more than 50 years. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff on the 4th and 5th floors of St Boniface Hospital. In keeping with Arsene's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, December 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street.   • I have just found in our archives the newspaper De Gazette van Detroit, edition 15.08.1969, addressed to Arsene Thienpondt, 373 Laviviere St., St.Boniface 6 in Canada. Is the family interested in this memory?   • Ik heb Arsene mar een paar keer ontmoet toen ik nog kind was ,maar hij is me altijd bijgebleven als een warm persoon en vind het spijtig dat ik hem niet beter heb leren kennen.Hij was een neef van mijn moeder ,Margriet Van Den Hende ,ze is op 29 mei overleden ,daar ik bezig ben met onze stambomen zou ik graag verder kennismaken mat deze verre familie .Het is reeds een paar jaar geleden dat Arsene is overleden maar ik werk nog niet zolang op internet ,en ben nu pas op zoek kunnen gaan .Ik weet niet als ik hier antwoord zal op krijgen en wacht dus in spanning af .Vriendelijke groeten vanuit Belgie . - Posted by: Neerinck Lucréce (Arsene was een neef van mijn moeder ,Margriet Van Den Hende) on: Jul 30, 2012
