NAOMI RUTH GOOD (nee BEATTIE) Naomi Ruth Good passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home on December 6, 2007. Born in Blair, Ontario, on December 15, 1915, she spent her formative years in Preston before marrying Ira, her beloved husband of 59 years. He predeceased her in April of 2001. Prior to starting a family, she received two years of training in nursing. When she eventually returned to the workplace outside the home, she pursued a diversified career in retailing in both Vancouver and Montreal. Ruth then embarked on her principal occupation which coincided with her avid interest in reading. In Montreal she was employed as a librarian at the Fraser-Hickson Institute before the family moved to Winnipeg in 1960. After a short stint at the Manitoba Legislative Library, she was hired as the founding librarian of the West Kildonan Public Library. Until her retirement she continued as head of that branch when it was amalgamated as part of the City of Winnipeg library system. After retirement she had more time to devote to activities at the Donnelly United Church. She also served as a director of the Senior Citizens Job Bureau of Winnipeg. Ruth took great pride in her family, home, cottage and garden and of course, in her work at the library. In addition to her keen interest in books and gardening, she also enjoyed bird-watching and listening to classical music. She frequently attended the theatre, symphony and ballet. Ruth will be deeply missed, especially by the surviving members of her immediate family: sons, Richard (Lisa) and Christopher (Lenore), daughter Carolyn Walker (Dave) of Erickson, granddaughters, Kristin Good of Halifax, Karen Laser (Oliver) of Calgary and Carla Walker, and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Rufus and Ruth Jutzi of Cambridge. Ruth was predeceased by her brother Francis Beattie in September of 1998. Her sister Elizabeth Treen died on December 9, 2007. The family is particularly grateful for the magnificent care provided at Bethania during the last several years and sincerely thanks the staff for their compassion and love. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth's memory to the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation or to the Deer Lodge Research Foundation, Movement Disorders Clinic. Services will be on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. The pallbearers will be Aaron Falk, Brian McTaggart, Norman Magnusson, John Oldham, Ernie Orpin and Doug Whalley. Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
