FLORENCE DORA LISOWIK 1910 - 2007 The family are saddened to report the passing of Florence Dora Lisowik (nee: Moffat) on December 11, 2007. Florence was born in Winnipeg on June 2, 1910, the eldest of three children. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Dauphin where she resided until 1933. In 1931, she graduated from Dauphin Normal College with a teaching certificate. Her teaching career, which was to last for 40 years, began in 1933 at Okno in the Interlake area of Manitoba. It was during the trip to her first school that she met her future husband, Anthony Lisowik, whom she married on April 21, 1936 in St. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church in Winnipeg. She and her husband took up residence on a farm north of Arborg, Manitoba from where she travelled to teach in such locations as Hyak, Rosenberg, Bjarmi, Arborg, Broad Valley, Hodgson, and Fisher Branch, often living in teacherages during the week. In 1956, she joined the Evergreen School District in Arborg, Manitoba where she taught until her retirement in June of 1973. In 1979, after the death of her husband, she moved to an apartment in Winnipeg where she resided until 2007 when ill health forced her to take up residence in Charleswood Care Centre. While living in her apartment, she was very active in the local residence organization, acting as Secretary-Treasurer for many years. Florence was predeceased by her husband Anthony, father Mathew, mother Anastasia (nee: Ksionzyk), sister Minnie and brother William. She leaves to mourn her passing her son Richard (Hazel) Lisowik, daughter Angela (Peter) Rempel, and daughter Valerie (Bob) Leislar as well as grand children Bradley Lisowik, Melanie Lisowik, Daryl (Shannon) Rempel, Coralee (Jarred) Dolyniuk, James Rempel, Daniel (Lynn) Leislar, and Thomas (Wendy) MacDermott. She also leaves 12 great-grand children. As well as actively teaching and co-farming with her husband, she loved to garden, an accomplishment she passed on to both daughters. After her retirement, she developed a real love of travelling, making many bus and plane trips in Canada and the USA. She travelled right up to her 95th birthday, to a family gathering in Saskatoon. She doted on her grand children and later, great-grandchildren. Birthdays were never missed and all of the grandchildren, from the time they could count, learned cribbage by playing numerous hands with her whenever they could get together. She will be sadly missed by all! At her request, she was cremated and will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Bjarmi Church Cemetery near Arborg. A Service of Remembrance will be held at Klassen Funeral Home, Saturday, December 15 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of one's own choosing may be made in her remembrance. Arrangements entrusted to KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson Hwy. 338-0331 www.klassenfuneralhome.com Life stories may be shared with friends and family across the globe at www.mem.com.
