Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHRISTIAN R. HANDKAMER Peacefully, with his loving wife Anne, and family at his bedside, Chris was called to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 9, 2007. Stilled are the hands that were once so gifted and freely extended to offer help, then pained, but now restored to a new purpose in his Father's Home. Chris was the eldest son of Charles and Elizabeth Handkamer, born on May 25, 1922. He was raised and educated in Winnipeg, and employed with the Canadian National Railway, as an upholsterer, for 35 years. During the Second World War, Chris served with the Royal Canadian Navy, as a Petty Officer (Sailmaker). He enjoyed fishing at Lac du Bonnet, and with the St. John's Sportsmen's Club. He was known for his finely handcrafted fishing lures - a hobby that became Jasper Enterprises. Chris was appreciated for his witty sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. Chris and Anne enjoyed 11 years in Kelowna, returning to make their new home in East St. Paul, always treasuring new friends. He was a faithful longtime member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, and more recently of St. Luke's Zion Lutheran Church. Chris is predeceased by his parents, his first wife Eleanor, brother Paul, sisters Carole Arklie, Mary, Anna and Elsie Handkamer. Left to cherish his memory are his brother Charles (Elizabeth), sister Dorothy, sister-in-law Magdalene, stepsons Edward and Dennis (Betty-Anne) Shandruk, niece Sandie (Alan) Hykaway, nephews Hugh (Valerie) Arklie, Ron (Sandy), Tom (Chris), Bob (Lisa) and Craig (Barbara) Handkamer and families, and cousins in British Columbia. Cremation has taken place. Chris' life will be remembered and celebrated at his memorial service and reception on Friday, December 14, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Zion Lutheran Church, 2903 McPhillips Street, Winnipeg. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. If you wish to honor Chris' memory, donations may be made to St. Luke's Zion Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice. To God be the Glory!
