ROSALIE (ROSIE) FLATT (nee HEIDT) December 21, 1913 December 11, 2007 On Tuesday, December 11, 2007, Rosalie passed away peacefully at the Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 93 years. Remaining to forever cherish Rosalie's memory are her sisters, Annie Flatt, Emilie Buffi, Alvina Loewen; sons, Richard, Ronald (Beverly); granddaughter Terri Lynn Flatt; grandson Kevin Flatt; great-granddaughter Jade; and Sherry Ure Flatt. She was predeceased by her parents, Rheinhardt and Alvina Heidt; husband, William; sister Edna at infancy; brothers-in-law, Adolf Flatt, Jacob Buffi and Phillip Loewen; daughters-in-law Vera Flatt and Patricia Flatt; granddaughter Rosemary Flatt; and grandson James Flatt. Rosie was born on December 21, 1913 in Waldersee, Manitoba, the eldest daughter of the late Rheinhardt and Alvina Heidt. She was raised and educated in the Waldersee and Glenella area. On November 2, 1936, Rosie was united in marriage to William Flatt. Together they spent most of their life farming in the Glenella district. On September 21, 1939, their first son Richard was born. On September 10, 1941, their second son Ronald was born. Later a third son was born, but died at infancy. They continued to farm in the Glenella district and while still farming, Dad was working for his nephew Donald at Massy Ferguson. They then decided to give up farming and in 1966 built their new home in Glenella. Although they were not farming anymore, Mom still continued to have her large garden and flowers, which meant she still continued to do her canning and preserving, sewing her own clothes, knitting and crocheting. There was never a dull moment around the house. Her winter months were spent curling in Glenella and Rosie also became a member of the Glenella Seniors Centre. She was also a life long member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Waldersee. As time went by our parents health began to fail, they then had to face the issue of moving out of their home, as it was too much for them to tend to. The house was sold and they moved into an apartment in Neepawa. In November of 1996, Rosie and William celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends. With their health continuing to decline, they were faced with having to make yet another move to the East View Lodge Personal Care Home. Their declining health meant they required assistance in looking after themselves. Dad's health was declining rapidly and he passed away on December 24, 1998. Mother remained at the East View Lodge. Since Mother's daughter in law, Vera, was a resident of the Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg, the family requested a transfer in July of 1999 and the request was granted and Rosie was moved to the Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg. During their lifetime, Rosie and William found some time to go fishing and do some traveling. They visited with family in Saskatoon, Luseland, Kerrobert, Saskatchewan; and with friends in Edmonton, Vancouver and Victoria. Mom and Dad had also enjoyed a trip to Disney World in Florida. Even though they enjoyed traveling, it was most often they preferred to stay close to home. Rosie's funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 18 at 1:00 p.m. in the Christ Lutheran Church, Waldersee, Manitoba. Interment will follow in the Waldersee Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the Deer Lodge Centre, Tower 4 for their compassionate care for the past eight and one half years and to Aubrey Hemminger. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rosie's memory to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba Inc., 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 4G2, or to the Christ Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, mailing address, Box 86, Glenella, Manitoba R0J 0V0.
