Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCATHERINE ANNETTA OLAFSON (nee SVOBODA) Peacefully and surrounded by love, Catherine Olafson passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the age of 85 years. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her two daughters, Valerie Watermulder (Henry) and Joyce Mackay (Kevin); four grandchildren, Jameson, Heidi, Beth and Cameron and one great-grandson, Austin. She is also survived by her two sisters Anne McDonald and Ruby Burr and numerous nieces and nephews. Catherine was born to immigrant parents Frank and Anne Svoboda on July 23, 1922 in a farm community near Morden, Manitoba. She had six sisters and two brothers. She married Oliver Olafson and they made their home in Winnipeg and were happily married for 47 years. Catherine was a loving and gentle woman. She welcomed all into her home with offerings of a good cup of Edwards coffee and fresh overnight buns. She nurtured all who entered her cozy kitchen and gave them the gift of her undivided attention. Catherine enjoyed nature. She loved to spend time in her beautiful flower garden tending to potted plants and her vegetables. She fed the birds and took great delight in all living things. Catherine adored her grandchildren and her great-grandson. She always had time to play cards, have a game of Croquinole and then of course there was always time for pancakes and treats for her darlings. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the staff on 5 Unit 5 at Seven Oaks Hospital for their tender care. Special thanks to Crystal, Jamie, Lisa, Candice, Dr. Wilson, Dr. Finlayson and Dr. Ball. Our heartfelt thank you to Erica Block for her constant support and prayers with Catherine and her family during the past four weeks. A celebration of Catherine's life took place on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street with interment at Brookside Cemetery.
