EUGENIA (JEAN) PETRYCKY 1927 - 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our cherished wife, mother, baba, prababa, sister and auntie, Eugenia on December 12, 2007 at Victoria General Hospital at the age of 79. Jean (Pniowsky) was born in the Ukraine, married Bohdan Petrycky in Austria in 1947 and settled in Winnipeg in 1949. She leaves to mourn her husband of 60 years; her sister Donna Gareau; four children Irene (Jerry) Seadon, George Petrycky, Ihor Petrycky, Lydia (Bill) Cox; seven grandchildren Tera (Chris) Zaluski, Tracy (Mike) Hildebrand, Kathryn, Andrew, Lisa and Chrissy Petrycky, Nicholas Cox; great-grandson Chase Hildebrand and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. In Europe she was educated in business and was pursuing a teaching career, which was interrupted by war. Here Jean was primarily a homemaker who continually multi-tasked to keep the family well cared for and organized. She worked part time for a number of years at Salisbury House and YWCA in cooking and food services. Mother, in her healthier years, was a people person constantly hosting, entertaining and sharing. She surrounded herself with family and friends, whether dancing with Dad, playing cards, at bingo or attending any other social gathering. Family was everything to Mom and nothing pleased her more than having the family together for all those special occasions throughout the years. Her home was filled with love and everybody was welcomed and fed. Her meals and hospitality were legendary to anyone who visited. The family wishes to thank Father Walter for his visit prior to Mom's passing and knows she is in God's Hands. Prayers on Sunday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m. and Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, December 17 at 10:30 a.m.; both at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 965 Boyd Avenue. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or to CancerCare Manitoba.
