IRENE BESSIE SARGENT (PACKER) 1908 - 2007 Peacefully on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, Irene Sargent passed away at Goodwin Lodge in Teulon, MB at the age of 99 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her four nieces, Irene Goldsbrough, Kathleen (Merlin) Biloki, Margaret (Jim) Medwid, Val (Ian) McHale and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by her brother John and sister Violet in childhood; husband Nelson in 1957; brother Cecil in 1929; brother Max (Tom) in 1973 and sister-in-law Emily in 1980. Irene was born in Devon, England on August 28, 1908. She came to Canada by ship to Montreal in 1921. After Cecil's death she joined her brother Max in Gunton in 1929. It was in Gunton where she met her husband Nelson. They were married in 1933. Irene and Nelson lived on the Sargent farm and were very involved with the community hall, curling rink, and United Church. Irene was very active in the UCW and sang in the church choir. At the age of 94 she could still sing by memory all her favorite hymns and Christmas carols at the top of her voice. After Nelson's death Irene worked as a Health Care Aide at Teulon Hospital and kept house for many families. She loved to entertain and always had many pets. Irene remained on the Sargent farm until 1993 when she moved into Gateway Manor. Due to failing health she moved into Goodwin Lodge in 1997. The family would like to thank the staff of Goodwin Lodge for their care and compassion over the years. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 18 at 1:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Teulon. Flowers gratefully declined.
