WILLIAM (BILL) RUSSEL MCCARTNEY With heavy hearts we are saddened to say that our beloved Husband, Dad and Grandpa passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of December 14, 2007, at the age of 82 years. Bill grew up in Oakbank, Manitoba, later moving to Winnipeg. At the young age of 17, Bill volunteered to serve in the Canadian Armed Forces in the Second World War. He served overseas in the European campaign, volunteering to remain in Germany for an additional year in the Peacekeeping Corp. Upon his return to Canada, he met his sweetheart' and married his life partner, Ethel on July 29, 1949. Together they had three children, Larry William, Sandra Mildred and Alan James. Throughout life, Bill loved his family unconditionally and taught us the true meaning of family commitment. We will miss him dearly, and will keep his love for us close in our hearts forever. Bill worked for the Canadian National Railway, later choosing a career in the trucking industry. He worked for Esso, Frosted Foods, and retired from Hill Security Van Lines after 27 years of faithful service with them in December 1989. Bill is predeceased by his father Frederick; mother Mabel Elizabeth; brothers, Lorne, Stanley and Chester, and sisters, Mabel, Jean (Copeland) and Ella (Draper). He will be dearly missed, by his loving wife Ethel; son Larry; daughter Sandra (and her friend Barry), and son Alan (Barb) along with his grandchildren, Gayleen, Trevor, Angela, Tammy, Pamela, Tracey and Robin, and 11 great-grandchildren. Bill's family would like to invite family and friends to join them in a celebration of his life through a prayers service on Wednesday, December 19 at 7:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway. The funeral service will be held on December 20 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway. Interment will take place at the Brookside Cemetery following the service.
