Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS YORK (BUN) DARTNELL After a lengthy illness, Bun passed away peacefully with family at his side at Deer Lodge Centre on December 14, 2007 at the age of 82. Bun is survived by his wife Christine; daughter Susan (Wayne) Dearlove of Winnipeg; son Michael of Toronto as well as grandchildren, Sean Dearlove (Robyn Pruden), and Jennifer (Ken) Miller, and great-grandchildren Jase Chartier, Morrigan and Logan Miller, and Kale Pruden. Bun was born on July 26, 1925 in Winnipeg. He and his younger sister Eileen grew up on Ingersoll Street in the West End. Eileen passed away in August 2007. Bun's parents, Sarah and Percy Dartnell also predeceased him. In addition to immediate family, he is also survived by his sister-in-law Margaret MacAulay, nieces Brynne Wild (Maurice McCracken), and Adair Wild (Craig Wilson) of Winnipeg, and nephews Douglas (Barbara) MacAulay of Victoria, BC and Dana (Helen) Wild of Winnipeg. In his youth, Bun was a known local athlete and hockey player in the Mercantile League. In 1944, Bun joined the Lord Strathcona Horse Artillery and served in the UK, Holland, Belgium and Germany. He played on the army hockey team while in Europe. In the 1950s and 1960s, he pitched softball for General Electric in the Men's Industrial Softball League. In his later years, he greatly enjoyed playing golf with his friend, the late Joseph Labossière. Bun had many other interests. He and Eileen learned to tap dance at a young age. Both retained a love of dance and music throughout their lives. Bun also loved to roller skate, play roller hockey, and was a member of the Winnipeg Roller Rink. After returning home from overseas, Bun joined his father in the family business, Dart Transfer. He remained as owner-operator until his retirement in 1996. Bun will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends. Bun greatly missed his dear pals, the late Art MacAulay and the late Benny Dartnell. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. If friends desire, a contribution may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, Unit 10-120 Donald Street Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to the staff of T3 and T5 wards at the Deer Lodge Centre for their kind compassion and care.
