TREVOR (DAN) WOOD April 24, 1930 - December 13, 2007 After a lengthy illness, longtime senior CBC Radio producer Dan Wood passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 13 in Winnipeg. Dan is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Suzette; his children, Pamela (Brett), Mark (Janice), Amanda, Jason (Terri), and Heidi (Graham); and grandchildren, Christopher and Danielle, Christopher and Hayley, Macleod, and Benny and Claire. Born in Winnipeg, Dan led a nomadic existence as the son of a CPR executive, Trevor Wood, often living in his dad's private railway car as the family moved from one location to another throughout Western Canada. This led to Dan's lifelong interest in railways, train travel and collecting railway memorabilia. His earliest involvement in broadcasting was in Winnipeg, as one of the famous Radio Kiddies. He became an early member of Eaton's Good Deed Radio Club, singing and playing the guitar, along with many talented young performers. Among his longtime friends were such fellow artists as Reg Gibson and Ted Komar. Years later Dan himself produced the Good Deed Radio Club for Eaton's. Dan became a radio announcer and producer for many private radio stations eventually settling at CBC Winnipeg. He was responsible for producing talent shows for the Armed Forces at remote Canadian bases and overseas. Dan was a three-time Ohio Award winner for his work with radio programs for the Manitoba School Broadcasts in the 1970s. He was also involved as audio consultant on many CBC television programs, most notably with Ted Komar on Red River Jamboree. After his retirement from the CBC in 1985 Dan discovered that he just couldn't let go and sign off. He became involved with the revival of the Golden Age of Radio in Winnipeg from its beginning. He greatly enjoyed sharing selections from his huge collection of vintage records from the earliest days of broadcasting and reintroduced pioneer performers to a whole new generation of listeners. More recently he was best known for his presentation of late-night radio dramas on radio station CKVN. The family would like to thank the caring staff at St. Boniface Hospital. We would also like to thank Ernie Mutimer for his lifelong memories of Dad and his kindness and support. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dan's memory can be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, in care of Mosaic Funeral Services, 1839 Inkster Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R2X 1R3. Thanks for the memories, old friend...... Cremation has taken place. Memorial service to be held at St. James United Church, 234 Parkview St., Winnipeg, on Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. To place online condolences or to light a memorial candle in Dan's memory please log on to www.mosaicfunerals.ca.
