Date of Passing: Dec 18, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY G. ZAKRISSON June 22, 1922-December 18, 2007 It is with deep sorrow our family announces the passing of Mary Grace Zakrisson at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre on December 18, 2007. Mary will be greatly missed by her family, sisters, Eff (Jack) Mason, Geraldine (Ken) Pennington, sister-in-law Hedy Chambers, along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews in Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary and Winnipeg. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband Karl (Charlie) in 1992, her parents John and Anastasia Chypyha (1969 and 1981 respectively), her brother Bill in 1991 and her sister Elsie and brother-in-law Tage Jensen of Vancouver in 2007. Mary was very close to Karl's family and, after his passing, she flew to Sweden to meet the remaining members of his family. Mary was born in Elma, Manitoba, on June 17, 1922. She attended Dugald School, and then Success Business College in Winnipeg. She joined the CNR as a Clerk-Stenographer in 1942 and remained with the railroad until her retirement in 1982. She had postings in Sioux Lookout, Redditt, Port Arthur (all in Ontario) and then Winnipeg. In her early years, living in lake country, she enjoyed skiing, curling, swimming, and finally golf in her later years. Mary became a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Sioux Lookout in 1974 and later the Rebekah Norwood Lodge No. 42 in Winnipeg holding offices, rising to Noble Grand. She enjoyed all the lady members and their meetings, and missed it very much after her illness progressed. She was a member of St. Stephen's Broadway United Church, which later became Broadway Disciples. Mary was a very gentle and caring person. She loved her family and friends and was Hallmark's best customer as she never missed a celebration, whether it was a birthday or anniversary or any other event. She dearly loved her time spent at the lake cottage at Red Rock Lake in the Whiteshell, and spent most of her summers there. She loved music and particularly enjoyed her piano. Mary will be deeply missed - but we will remember her smiles as she would want to be remembered. Many thanks to the staff at Golden Door for their kindness and care to Mary during her time there. If friends desire, donations may be made to a charity of their choice, or to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1L8. Service will be at Thomson in the Park, Friday, December 21 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
