ROBERT (BOB) POLSON Together we CELEBRATE the life of Robert (Bob) Olafur Polson, 71 years of age, born in Langruth, MB on August 18, 1936, who passed away on Monday, December 17, 2007 in Pinawa, Manitoba. Bob was predeceased by his Grandparents, Amma Elizabeth Polson, Afi Gustaf Polson, Amma Swava Egilson and Afi Olafur Egilson, after whom he was named. His parents Olaf and Robert Wyatt Polson, an infant brother, Archibald Wyatt, and his wife JoAnne Morrison Polson in 1995, to whom he was married for 40 years and the mother of his four wonderful daughters. He is survived by his present wife Belva Smith Polson, and his family, Robin Henley (Kirk) Cindy Hammond (Grant), Kim Nose (Richard) and Kelly Mack (Gary); his grandchildren, Khristen (Ryan), Megan (Kenny), Lyndsy (Ryan), Michael, Adam, Amanda, Sarah, two great-granddaughters, Joanna and Chloe and stepchildren, Rhonda and Mark Smith. He joked he had waited many years for a son and he and Mark enjoyed a mutual love of the golf course. He leaves to mourn as well, his sister Linda McKay (Bob), nephews, Rick and Rob McKay and many cousins. Bob's grandparents immigrated from Iceland to Gimli and Big Point, (Langruth) Manitoba in the 1800s. He was very proud of his Icelandic heritage, and whenever possible attended the yearly Icelandic Celebration in Gimli where in recent years he was honoured to personally meet the Prime Minister of Iceland, Halldur Asgrimssun, at the annual Sigurdson Flag Raising Ceremony. Bob always challenged life, starting young with his family of four girls to support and raise, enjoying their early years, the community club sports years, their marriages and finally the gentle years with his little people , the grandchildren and great-grandchildren they have given him. He and Belva married in 1998 and purchased a home in Pinawa. Bob retired in July 2000 after 45 years with Midwest Detroit Diesel. He was humbled by the parties and good wishes he received from the people he worked with, the customers and the friends throughout the industry. In his life after retirement he took on new challenges, working for Paul MacIntosh on the farm, revelling in long hours on the swather and driving the big combine, learning all about leaf cutter bees . He enjoyed what he called the idyllic life in Pinawa, snowmobiling, grooming trails, cutting wood, fishing with his happy hour buddies and hours spent on the golf course. He would be seen early in the morning on his scooter, trailering his clubs to the golf course. As a sun worshiper, he felt very fortunate to have enjoyed many winter vacations to sunny spots in Mexico, the Caribbean, Hawaii and most recently enjoying several road trips to Texas. Since his diagnosis in August 2005 Bob has continued to fight the good fight with a positive attitude and joy of a life he was grateful for, he has wasted not a minute. We extend special thanks to Dr. R. VanGend, Dr. E. Spence, Dr. P. Harris and the thoughtful nursing staff, Connie, Michelle, Cheryl, Susan and Myrna. Service will be held at the Sturgeon Creek United Church at 207 Thompson Drive, Thursday, December 20, 2007 at 1:00 p.m., a private family interment will follow. Flowers are declined. Please make donations to the Oncology Unit at the Pinawa Hospital. Don't cry because it is over smile because it happened - Dr. Seuss. Goda Nott Elskan Min - There was a Dad who had 4 daughters. Swung them, Spun them, Chased them, Caught them, Hugged them, Loved them, Praised them, Taught them. Oh what happiness they brought him. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
