VOLDEMARS KRISTAPS (CHRIS) BAUMANIS It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and peaceful passing of our dear father and grandfather Chris on Sunday, December 16, 2007, at 91 years of age. Chris is survived by his son, Gundars Reinfelds (Ursula), daughter, Daina Soviak (Randy), grandchildren Kelsey and Carson Soviak, of whom he was so proud; sister-in-law, Lilijia Keleris, nieces and nephews; and relatives in Latvia. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Venta (1991) and most recently his brother-in-law, Armand Keleris (2007). Chris was born in Latvia in April 28,1916, and immigrated to Canada in 1949. He married Venta Reinfelds in 1957 and lived in Fort Garry until entering Riverview Health Centre in 2000. He worked as a stone mason (Baltic Masonry) and his creative talents are still evident in many businesses and homes throughout Winnipeg. Leisure time meant winters at Badger snowmobiling and hunting, and summers at Twin Beaches gardening and fishing. At Riverview he enjoyed visits from friends, many times greeting his own and others at the front door; and to us he was known as the Walmart Greeter. He especially looked forward to weekly visits from his close friend, Elmars Dirikis, to discuss news from Latvia, sports and current events. He took great pride in his tomato plants in his miniature garden; and was the resident fish feeder . He was a kind and caring person with a big heart and will be missed by family and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed his seven-year stay at Riverview and his caregivers became his extended family. Our sincere and heartfelt thanks to all. A memorial service will be held at Riverview Health Centre Chapel on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, in memory of Chris a contribution may be made to Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4.
