Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMORRIS ELI BUBIS Our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Morris Eli Bubis, passed away peacefully at Victoria General Hospital on Monday, November 26, 2007, at the age of 96. He was predeceased by our mother, Mae Bubis, and by his parents, Sarah and Max Bubis, sisters, Ruth Gunn and Mina Pasicov, and sons-in-law, Murray Arenson and Brian Katz. He is survived by his children, Harriet (Elliot) Rodin, Carole Arenson, Adrienne Katz, and Mordy Bubis (Nina Stipich). His grandchildren, Steven (Leah) Rodin, Rachel Rodin (Joel Secter), Adam (Mika) Rodin, Sara Arenson, Michael Arenson, Pam Katz (Gary Finkleman), Patricia Katz, Stacey Katz, Lev Bubis, and Tamara Bubis, as well as great-grandchildren, Jacob, Maegan, Lazar, and Lyla will all miss Zaida Morrie very much. He is also survived by his brother, Bill (Estelle) Bubis, brother-in-law, Syd Gunn, and Bea Kraven, his dear friend and companion of many years, as well as many other relatives. Morris attended the University of Manitoba in Pre-Med. When the Second World War broke out, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served four years overseas in Great Britain. He used his science background in helping to implement new radar and airplane technology. Shortly after his return to Winnipeg, he and our mother were married. Her death almost 15 years ago devastated him, and the loneliness always remained just below the surface. On his return to Winnipeg, Dad was involved in Crescent Fruit Company, the family business started by his father. The warehouse was a going concern and he spent long hours working. At the age of 64, he retired. He was able to pursue his interests in gardening, fishing, life at the Gimli cottage, traveling, reading materials of all descriptions, exploring various gadgets, and attending Sabbath services at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue of which he was a member. He was a Mason, having been a past member and Master of Capital Lodge and more recently, a member of the Viking Lodge in Gimli. He was also a member of the Ritualistic Unit of the Shrine. He was a true family man. In his hard work, he was motivated by the desire to provide a comfortable living for our family. He loved our mother, Mae, intensely and had the ultimate respect for her wisdom and for the example she set for all of us. He was always supportive and loving. Nothing made him happier than to be surrounded by the family and to be part of our many family gatherings. We will all miss those magical moments. We would like to thank the staff of the fourth floor south at Victoria General Hospital for their excellent and compassionate care during our father's hospitalizations this year. The funeral service was held at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on Wednesday, November 28, 2007, with Rabbi Pinsker officiating assisted by Cantor Mass. Pallbearers were Steven Rodin, Adam Rodin, Michael Arenson, Leonard Schwartz, Harry Schwartz, and Robert Pudavick. Should friends desire, contributions to the Jewish Foundation (Morris Bubis Fund), the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, or to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
