KATHRYN MICKALL (nee KOWAL) Peacefully, with her family by her side, Kathryn Mickall passed away on Friday, December 21, 2007, at the age of 88 years at the Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg after a brief illness. Mourning her loss are her daughters, Jo-Anne Mickall (Michael Berney) of Winnipeg, and Diana (Richard) Whiting of Toronto. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Jared (Darcy) of Winnipeg, Morgan (Nathan Giesbrecht) of Winnipeg, Jason (Sarah) of Toronto, and Scott of New York and great-granddaughters Rachel (Jared and Darcy) born November 2, 2006 and Angel (Morgan and Nathan) born November 3, 2005. Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Stanley in 2002, her parents Theodorus (Fred) and Tatiana (Teenie), and brother John. Mom was born in Ukraine on February 14, 1919, with the name Catherina. She immigrated to Canada with her family at the age of three and subsequently grew up in the North End of Winnipeg. Mom and dad were married on April 8, 1944 at St. Volodymyr and Olga Cathedral (Ukrainian Catholic). They continued to reside in the North End until 1968 when they built a new home in East Kildonan and resided there for nearly 40 years. For the past two years mom resided at the Bethania Personal Care Home, and for the two years prior at the Maples Personal Care Home. Mom worked as a sewing machine operator and as the sample maker for the coat designers at Canadian Sportswear. She retired in 1973. Following her retirement she spent her time caring for her family, enjoying time at the family cottage at Betula Lake which she helped build with Stanley in 1957, travelling over a 25-year period to many countries (always warm ones in the winter), and spending time in Toronto visiting with her grandsons, Jason and Scott. Funeral services, to be presided by Father Michael Winn of Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Parish, will be held on Friday, December 28, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. Arrangements Entrusted To: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main Street 388-7111
