MARY JOAN FRASER (nee VAN CAUWENBERGHE) 1941 - 2007 With deep sadness the family announces that Joan Fraser passed away suddenly in her husband's arms on Saturday, December 22, 2007 at the age of 66 years at her home in Winnipeg. Joan was born on the home farm in the Swan Lake area of Manitoba on August 25, 1941. She attended the local elementary school in Swan Lake, and graduated from the Ste Marie High school in Bruxelles, Manitoba and from Manitoba Teacher College in 1960. Joan and Marcel were married on May 21, 1966. She was a school teacher at St. Gerard School near Swan Lake, MB; Hapnot School in Flin Flon; Frontenac School in Windsor Park; Royal School in Charleswood. Joan was also a substitute teacher for many years in the Fort Gary area in Winnipeg and until her passing was a volunteer with Mrs. Charach at Highbury School in St. Vital. During her working years and in her retirement she volunteered for many community events, and was recognized and appreciated for her organizational skills. She enjoyed watching most sports but her favorite was curling which she enjoyed to play throughout her life. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy as she watched them play baseball and hockey. She greatly enjoyed traveling across Canada and the USA. She leaves to mourn her husband Marcel, daughters, Kerilee (Trevor Fischer); grandchildren, Niklas and Sara; Michelle (Jay Allard); grandchildren, Troy and Trina; and Sharon (Dennis White). She also leaves to mourn her brother, Robert Van Cauwenberghe (Dolores); three brothers-in-law, Richard (Gladys), Albert (Joanna), Antoine (Ivy Claire) Fraser and five sisters-in-law, Therese Barsalou, Yvette Leperre, Evangeline Fraser, Cecile (Edward) Myslicki, Jeannette Fraser, and many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her infant baby Joanne, parents, Nestor and Annie Van Cauwenberghe, in-law parents, John and Antoinette Fraser; two brothers-in-law, Ernest and Denys Fraser; brothers-in-law, Leon Barsalou, Maurice Leperre, and Ernie Semmler. At her request cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrated by Fr. Phil Daley and co-celebrant, Fr. Firmin Michaels will be held at St. Timothy Parish Church (135 John Forsyth Rd. R2N 1R3) on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lorne Memorial Hospital (Palliative Care), Swan Lake, MB R0G 2S0 or to the St. Timothy Parish or to a charity of their choice. The family would like to thank all the family, friends, University classmates, and residents of Marywood Lane for their support.
