Date of Passing: Dec 24, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHERMAN ELSWOOD ARNASON (HERMIE) December 21, 1927 - December 24, 2007 Peacefully surrounded by the love of family, our dear husband, father and Afi passed away at Riverview. Herman and June celebrated 53 years of marriage and were grateful to have had so much happiness and joy in their lives. Herman is survived by his wife June, (nee Dahlman); daughter Val (Andrew); sons, Dean and Terry; grandchildren, Kale and Dillon, Nicholas, Amanda, Michela and Hannah. Herman was predeceased by his parents, Gudrun and Vilhjalmur; brothers, Gordon, John, and sister Olaf. Herman is also survived by his brothers Valdi, Joey and Fred; sisters, Anna and Elin and many nieces and nephews. Herman was a quiet man with a tremendous sense of humor. He was a hardworking man of integrity and traditional values, a man of his word. Herman was a member of the Gimli Masonic Lodge. He treasured family, friends, his Icelandic heritage, loved his home in Fort Garry and his summer home in Riverton where he delighted in the things he DIDN'T have - no phone, TV, mail, paper, heat or waterworks. He loved the simple things in life. Herman enjoyed his friends at Winnipeg Hydro where he was employed for 28 years until his retirement in 1987. Herman and June had many opportunities to travel and enjoyed numerous trips to Knee Lake and Palm Springs. The family wishes to thank Dr. Garcia and the wonderful staff at Riverview and family and friends for their kindness. A celebration of Herman's life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Winnipeg, on Saturday, December 29 at 2:00 p.m. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverton Transportation and Heritage Centre, Box 250, Riverton, MB R0C 2R0.
