PAMELA MARGARET THIESSEN Peacefully in her sleep at the age of 81, after two years fighting cancer on December 22, 2007. Mourning her passing are her four sons, Bryan (Sigrid), Craig (Marlene), Bruce (Christina) and Mark (Valerie). She also leaves her sister Avis Sherwood of Maple Ridge, BC; and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. Pamela was predeceased by her parents Sydney and Margaret Stevens. John, her devoted husband of 58 years, had died in October 2007. Pamela was born in Winnipeg, November 12, 1926. She had a happy childhood growing up on Dominion and Sherburn Streets and attending Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate. Pamela studied office administration and began her working life at Oldfield Kirby Gardner. Immediately after the war she met John Thiessen at the Winnipeg Roller Rink, and within months, their meeting kindled into the love affair that endured throughout her life. Pamela married John September 17, 1949, and they started their family almost immediately. As their family expanded, she and John began a home-based business that would grow into National Typewriter and Office Equipment Co. Ltd. In the early years she wore many hats, taking customer telephone calls at all hours while two or three sons made a racket in the background, keeping the company books, and making a wonderful life for her sons. While John may have been the dynamo in the business side of their lives, he clearly yielded to Pamela in their home life. In their retirement years, they were inseparable, enjoying many travels, and wintering at their place in Florida. Upon John's passing, we recognized that they had fulfilled their desire to live together independently for as long as they possibly could. The family is grateful to all the fine people at Grace Hospital 3N who provided for Pamela in her final days. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee. Cremation has taken place. Service celebrating Pamela's life at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Refreshments to follow at the funeral home. Interment to follow privately at a later date. Thomson In the Park Funeral Home and Cemetery www.thomsoninthepark.com 925-1120
