HARLE DUNCAN ROBINS September 1, 1925 December 24, 2007 Harle passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve morning at St. Boniface General Hospital at the age of 82 years. He will be greatly missed by Margaret (Peggy) his wife of 53 years and their children Ann (Vern Bond) and David (Sheila); grand-children Kara Nacci (Tom Garrett), Riley and Kelsey Robins and new great-granddaughter Sophia Robins Garrett. He was pre deceased by his parents Jean and William and by granddaughter Laura Alicia Robins. Harle was raised in the West End of Winnipeg and attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. He supported himself through university by working at the old CN Freight Sheds and loved to share stories of those days with his family and friends. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War and returned to complete his BSC at the University of Manitoba after the war. Harle worked for Sandoz as a pharmaceutical rep after University. In 1953 he met his partner for life Peggy and they were married in 1954. They settled and raised a family in Winnipeg. In 1966 they moved to Halifax where Harle completed his Masters in Social Work. They returned to Winnipeg in 1967 and he worked for the Children's Aid Society until his retirement in 1990. He was well regarded by co-workers and clients alike and developed lasting relationships with many of them. Harle was active in his retirement and began working as a Commissionaire. He was a member of the Fort Garry Legion Branch No.90. He was a passionate gardener and at one point he turned the entire back lawn of their Fort Garry home into a flower and vegetable garden. He took up writing and joined the Creative Writers Group of Winnipeg and published several short stories in their yearly publication. He was also an active member of MSOS and his favourite contribution to the newsletter was an article he wrote on the dangers of cell phone usage while driving a vehicle. Family members with cell phones were reminded of this article often. He absolutely loved being a grandfather and in his gentle way taught his children and grandchildren many of the important lessons for life. In keeping with Harle's wishes there will be no service and cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be invited to a gathering at a later date to celebrate his life. The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Boniface Hospital for their compassion, kindness and care of Harle over several hospital visits this last year. In particular we want to recognize the staff in Emergency and the 5A South Cardiac unit. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Harle's memory to the St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation (Cardiac Patient Care), 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, R2H 2A6 Neil Bardal Inc. 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
