SOPHIE OSTAPCHUK Peacefully on December 23, 2007, at the Gimli Community Health Centre, Sophie Ostapchuk, aged 91 years, of Meleb, MB. Prayers were said on Friday, December 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, Meleb, with Fr. Harry Chuckry officiating. Interment will follow in the Park Cemetery. Sophie was predeceased by her husband David, three infant children, daughter Pearl, brothers, Panko, Mike, John, Fred, Harry, Bill, Sam and Thomas and a sister Katie. She leaves surviving a son Albert (Pat), a sister Mary Kuslak, grandchildren Geraldine Haller (Tim) and their children Stephanie and Christine, Karen and David Sinotte and David, Matthew and Shawn Ostapchuk, as well as many nieces and nephews. Sophie and David were married in 1940 and lived at Red Lake, Ont., for the first five years. They then moved to the homestead in Meleb where they lived and farmed until she moved to the New Harbour Lodge in Gimli six years ago. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Gimli Community Health Centre for their care and compassion shown to Sophie. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made the the Gimli Hospital or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli in care of arrangements.
