Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN BRANDT It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Helen Brandt, on Sunday, December 23, 2007, at the Grace Hospital. Helen was born on March 1, 1917, to Wasyl and Caroline Zmud on the family homestead near Bruno, Saskatchewan. She came to Winnipeg as a young woman, working as a hairdresser for several years. In 1942, she married Walter Brandt. They settled in the west end of the city and raised their family, eventually moving to the St. James area. After Wally's retirement, they became snowbirds and for over 20 years they relished escaping Winnipeg winters for the warmth of their home in Englewood, Florida. They enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, traveling and socializing with their many friends both there and in Winnipeg. Helen was preceded in death by her husband in 1999; and by their son Wally Jr. in 1962. She was also predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Mike and John; and one sister Elsie. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her daughter Carol and son-in-law Jim of Kildeer, Il; her grandson Jay of Chicago; and her granddaughter Allison (Mark) of El Portal, California. She is survived by one sister Emily of Langley, BC; and many nieces and nephews. Helen was a woman of great compassion who faced life's challenges unflinchingly and without complaint. A wonderful friend, she always stepped forward to offer help and support without waiting to be asked. Her thoughtfulness, warmth and generosity of spirit to family and friends are her gift to us. Her best qualities live on in her beloved grandchildren: Jay has been blessed with her quick wit and wonderful sense of humour; Allison has inherited her artistic and creative talents. She will be remembered for her rich, full life, for her many accomplishments, and for her laughter. We are so grateful for having had her for 90 years, and for all the beautiful memories she has left us. Special thanks go to the nursing staff at three south Grace Hospital. Your compassion and many acts of kindness during Helen's final weeks are deeply appreciated. A private family service, officiated by Father Isidore Dziadyk, O.S.B.M., has been held, with interment at Assumption Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
