ARNOLD (ARNIE) A. ALTON 1923 - 2007 On December 25, 2007, we lost our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and friend. Arnie was predeceased by his parents Emma and Robert; brothers Leonard, Charles, Ken and Morris; sisters Alma and Stella. He was also predeceased by his son Edward in 1957, a daughter Colleen in 1963 and his eldest son Larry in 2004. He is survived by his wife Betty of 54 years; his son Gordon and wife Suzanne; daughter Patricia and husband Dan Miller; daughter-in-law Lidia; grandsons, Ian, Tyler, Kyle, Matthew, and Andrew; step-granddaughters, Samantha, Alexandra, and Stephanie, and extended family and friends. Arnie was born in Islay, Alberta, 1923. He was the last of seven children, so he was always considered the baby of the clan. He spent his childhood days helping with the family farm in spite of dealing with asthma. Arnie met his wife Betty in 1952, they were married in 1953 and they had a wonderful and exciting life together, with many joys and sorrows. They welcomed births of their children and grandchildren for whom Arnie had a special place in his heart. Arnie and Betty traveled extensively, and Arnie was particularly fond of traveling in Great Britain. He started his career as a sales rep for RCA in Edmonton; he later transferred to Winnipeg, and eventually became RCA's Vice-President for Western Canada. Arnie always had a great loyalty to RCA and he felt they were Number One to sell and to work for. Arnie enjoyed his many contacts with staff and dealers throughout Canada and the United States. He was also an avid golfer and initiated the golfing tournaments as a means of establishing friendly ties between his salesmen and their dealers. Arnie was multi-talented guy and was an accomplished carpenter, musician, boat builder, and photographer. Arnie loved curling and he skipped his own rink including at least one Eight Ender. One of his favourite things to do was to be on the golf course in the early morning hours at Southwood. He was a charismatic and fun loving person and will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all. We wish to thanks Dr. J. Werier for his many years of wonderful care and also all of the caregivers and staff at Ft. Garry Care Centre and the Golden Door for all their support and concern. In keeping with Arnie's wishes, cremation has taken place with interment at a later date. No formal service will take place. A family gathering will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R3T 9Z9.
