Date of Passing: Dec 27, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET EDWARD ADAIR 1916 - 2007 Peacefully, on Thursday December 27, 2007, with her family at her side, our beloved Mum and Gran passed away at Golden Links Lodge. Margaret, who was affectionately known as Mac , will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Malcolm (Jean) of Glasgow, Scotland, and Connie (Rex) Blamey of Winnipeg; her grandchildren, Michael (Gail), Murray (Sally), Lindsay and Greig; her brother Allie (Margaret); her nephews, Graeme (Diane), Craig (Peggy) and Duncan. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, a great-nephew and three great-nieces. She was predeceased by her daughter Bernice; her husband Jack; her parents, Minnie and James McBride, and her sister Maisie. Mum was born in Glasgow, Scotland, where she lived, worked and raised her family. She emigrated to Canada in 1970 to join Connie and her family in Winnipeg. She began working as a secretary at the Winnipeg School Division Offices, eventually moving to become head secretary at Grant Park High School until her retirement in 1981. She became a Canadian citizen in 1977, but remained a proud Scot in her heart. Her life in Canada revolved around Connie, Rex, Lindsay and Greig. She was a devoted Mum and Gran, enjoying summer vacations at Clear Lake, and many family celebrations the whole year through. Christmas was indeed her favourite time of year, and through her love of this season she built many traditions, which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. For the last thirteen years Mum waged a battle with Alzheimer's disease. Golden Links Lodge was her home for the last nine years, being looked after by the staff of the Special Needs Unit and One North. Words cannot express our profound thanks for the loving and compassionate care that surrounded her during her many years at the Lodge. Fighting a disease that robs so many of basic human dignity, it is with deep gratitude that we thank the staff, both past and present, for ensuring this was something that Mum never had to endure. A memorial service to honour Mac's life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 3 at Golden Links Lodge, 2280 St. Mary's Road in Winnipeg. If friends so wish, donations may be made in Mac's memory to Golden Links Lodge.
