JOAN JOSEPHINE GOTTFRIED Joan passed away peacefully at Gimli Hospital on Friday, December 28, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 65 years old. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Leo Gottfried; sons, Grant (Diana), Dean (Laura); grandchildren, Sarah and John, Liam and Olivia; her sister Margaret (Maggie) Burrows; nephew Jeff Burrows (Heidi); niece Jennifer Konczak (Rob) and grandnephew Logan. She was predeceased by her parents Svanberg and Gudny (Toots) Albertson, and brother in-law Dr. Brian Burrows. Joan always spoke her mind and fought for her beliefs. If someone was in need she was there for them: be it a place to stay or a friend to talk to. Joan was born on September 5, 1942 at the Gimli Hospital and grew up in the village of Husavik, Manitoba. She was an avid 5 pin bowler (traveling to nationals and provincial championships) as well as a 2nd base fastball player. She played piano and also enjoyed baking and sewing. Her family still thinks of her cooking and baking as the best around. Joan loved to have friends and family over to her home or cabin for long visits, music and singing. Her sons have fond memories of their parents gliding across the dance floor at social gatherings. We would like to thank all of those who contributed to Joan's care at Gimli Hospital. The consideration and kindness shown were a comfort to Joan and her family. A heartfelt thanks to Margaret Burrows for her knowledge and support. Kind thanks is also extended to all friends and family who visited Joan. Pastor Jaycen Snider will hold a memorial service at the Gimli Lutheran Church, 52 Third Avenue, Gimli, Manitoba on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Husavik Cemetery or CancerCare Manitoba. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
