Date of Passing: Jan 01, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIA BUETTNER July 17, 1914 - January 1, 2008 Peacefully, on New Year's Day, with her loving family by her side, Maria Buettner, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed through the gates of heaven to eternal life. Remaining to forever cherish Maria's memory are her son Edwin (Therese); grandchildren, Karen (Paul) Kochan, Cheryl (Darryl) Ferguson and Eric; and great-grandchildren, Max and Samuel, all of Winnipeg. She will join in heaven her loving husband of 51 years, Frank, her three brothers and her parents. Maria was born and educated in Austria. She was proud of her work as a post office manager and would always entertain her family with animated stories about her adventures there. She was forced to flee Europe during the Second World War and moved to Montreal as part of a refugee immigration program. She worked as a domestic in Montreal, where she met her husband, Frank. They settled in the St. Brieux district of Saskatchewan, where they managed a small business and farm. She spent her retirement years in Winnipeg devoted to the care of her grandchildren. Maria will always be remembered for her sense of humour, her determination, her strength of character and the love she shared with her family. She was a great storyteller with an infectious laugh and a sweet-smelling kitchen. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the 4-D section of Concordia Place and Chaplain John Friesen, for their years of devoted care. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Concordia Foundation Inc., 1095 Concordia Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2K 3S8 (661-7156). Cremation has taken place. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 4 at St. Mary's Cathedral, 353 St. Mary Avenue. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200 www.nbardal.mb.ca
