PETER CURTIS MCCUAIG Peter McCuaig died suddenly in Toronto, ON, December 30, 2007, having lived life at it's zenith for 78 years. Humourist, lover of song, people, and all creatures great and small, Peter leaves his wife, Megan; brothers, Michael and Donald; sons, Bruce, Peter, John (Sheila) and Donald; stepdaughters, Sara and Alexandra MacArthur; grandchildren, Kendall, Jasmin, Sarah and Ryan and friends too numerous to count. Renowned for his lyrical form on the ski hill and his gastronomic appreciation for fine food and the occasional glass of scotch, Peter evinced a passion for military history, classic cars and, especially, cottage life. From the construction of the log cabin Hiscuaigham with two school chums at the age of 18, to his beloved P.E.I. (Peter's Entire Island), Peter created his own cosmos in the wilderness. Walking ever so gently on God's green earth, he would offer an end-of-season goodbye kiss to the white pines at Minaki. Why so sad a moan? Life is the rose's hope while yet unblown; The reading of an ever-changing tale; The light uplifting of a maiden's veil; A pigeon tumbling in clear summer air; A laughing school-boy, without grief or care, Riding the springy branches of an elm. - Keats A celebration of Peter's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 5, 2008, at St. Peter's Anglican Church, 755 Elm Street. Memorial donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Pete was my next door neighbour and my brother's best friend. I last saw him in Flin Flon many years ago but it was as if we had seen each other yesterday. He was a lovely bloke and I am sure will be greatly missed. God bless. - Posted by: Mary Helen Shipton (friend) on: Aug 11, 2012

  • My name is Barbara Webb and I am a former employee of WSRC, one of Peter's favourite haunts. Everyday he entered the Squash Club he had a kind word to say or a joke to tell or perhaps a quote from his favourite poet. Peter is a wonderful person and gentleman. - Posted by: Barbara Webb (Acquaintance) on: Jan 05, 2008

  • Dearest Megan and family, we were saddened to hear from Joan Farnfield about Peters passing. How sad for you as he had such presence. Haven't seen either of you of late, but having gone through a recent loss I just had to send our condolences. Our prayers are with you all. Peters kids and ours went through school together. Unfortunately we will be unable to pay our respects as we are presently in Az. Sincerely Jim and Cynthia Slevin - Posted by: Cynthia Slevin (Acquaintance) on: Jan 03, 2008
