GRACE DOROTHY LECHELT Peacefully, on January 1, 2008, at the Lakeshore General Hospital with her family by her side, Grace Dorothy Lechelt, aged 78 years, of Ashern, MB. Grace is survived by her son Edward (Cheryl); grandchildren, Chandra and Brent; great-granddaughter Thea; sister Janice (Dan); brothers, Harvey (Joyce), Ed (Millie), Allan (Val), Jim (Shirley), Gordon (Debbie); sisters-in-law, Helen, Hilda, Adeline (Jim), Violet (Lawrence); brother-in-law Bernie (Barbara); and many nieces and nephews. Grace was predeceased by her husband Arnold; parents John and Norah Knowles; and sisters, Joyce and Alice. Grace was born in Winnipeg and raised in Gypsumville, MB. In 1951 she married Arnold Lechelt and they moved to Ashern. She spent many years working alongside him at their International Harvester Dealership and then later at Ashern Family Fashion until her retirement in 1987. Arnold and Grace enjoyed fishing and camping trips to Fairford River and many other places over the years with special friends Charlie and Jackie. Grace had a special love for gardening, birds and animals. Her yard at the farm was her pride and joy. She made sure each flower had its special place. Binoculars and bird books were often on the kitchen table. Her many pets included dogs, cats, birds and fish...each one like family. She was a founding member and a volunteer for many years with the L.I.F.E. Program in Ashern. Her most prize possession, in recent months, was the gold heart bracelet she received in appreciation from them. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2008, at the Ashern Legion Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the hall. Interment to follow in the Ashern Municipal Cemetery. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff in Ashern and Winnipeg, the Ambulance attendants and to our family and friends for their support. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6, or the Living Independence for Elders, in care of Sandra McDougall, PO Box 684, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0. Arrangements by: ARNASON FUNERAL HOME LTD. Ashern - Lundar 1-204-768-2072
