BERTHE GIRARD-RITCHOT (nee TANGUAY) After a lengthy illness, Betty Girard-Ritchot went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on January 1, 2008, at the age of 79 years. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Philias Ritchot; her sisters, Cécile Nott, Laura Hanna and Vye Dufresne; her sons, Harold (Anita), Marc (Peggy), Rhéal (Desiree), Alan (Becky), and three stepdaughters, Joanne (Rick) Scott, Louise Stuart and Yvette (Larry) Tanner; her 11 grandchildren, Lise, Veronique, Joël, Joanne, Leanne, Michael, Nikki, Chantal, Michelle, Travis and Jamie; her eight great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren. Betty was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Laurent Girard in 1997; and by her brother Aurèle and her sister Beatrice. Mom was born in Saskatchewan on June 5, 1928. She married Laurent in 1946 and together they farmed in the Elie area and later on the Tanguay homestead near Poplar Point, Manitoba, until 1974. Betty and Laurent cared for 27 foster children over the years. After their farming career, Mom and Dad moved to Winnipeg where Mom was employed by the St. James School Division as a secretary until she retired. She spent her retirement years volunteering with and caring for the elderly at the Taché Centre. She would also spend as much time as she could with her family. We will all remembered the big Sunday breakfasts at her home where many a story was told. Betty met Phil Ritchot in 1998 and they were married on June 5 of 1999. Phil has been by her side ever since and he was at her side at the time she left us. We all appreciate his caring kindness and commitment to her. Funeral mass will be celebrated by Father Fred Olds at the St. Bernadette Roman Catholic Church, 820 Cottonwood Road in Windsor Park, on Saturday, January 5 at 1:00 p.m. The service will terminate at the church. Private entombment will take place in the mausoleum of Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue, at a later date. Those wishing to do so may make a donation in Betty's memory to a charity of one's choice. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 775-2220.
