Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAGNES NIGHTINGALE It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Agnes Nightingale on January 3, 2008, at Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, MB. Mom was born in Utrecht, Holland, on April 28, 1925, to parents Albertus and Johanna Van Wijngaarden. Mom will lovingly be remembered by her five children and their families: Johanna (Melvin) Rempel, Lana Blatz, Alida (Reynald) Preteau, Sandra (Ken) Pauls, and Robert (Ruby) Nightingale, four sisters, and one sister-in-law (still residing in Utrecht, Holland). Mom was predeceased by her parents Albertus and Johanna Van Wijngaarden, her husband John Nightingale, her special friend Albert Delorme, her sisters Gerda and Antonio, her brother Albert, son-in-law Dan Blatz, and one great-granddaughter Kyra Preteau. Mom met Dad in Holland when Dad was injured during the war. She left Holland in 1947 and married Dad in Steinbach on June 21, 1947. Mom loved the sport of curling, long walks in the country with whomever would accompany her, but mostly she loved to dance. Mom loved to travel, feed the many birds in her backyard, garden, do puzzles, cook (way too much) and always looked forward to visits from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a real people person and worked hard at various jobs in Steinbach for many years. Mom was a member of the Legion Auxiliary for 57 years and an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 23 years. She received a Lifetime Membership Award. We, the family, would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Ilchyna, the staff and Bethesda Hospital nurses for their compassionate dedication and care during this last difficult year. Also thank you to everyone who brightened Mom's day by stopping by her hospital room to say hi. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held January 8, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach, MB. Ash interment will take place at Memorial Cemetery. Donations may be made in Mom's memory to the Royal Canadian Legion, Steinbach Branch, Box 3179, Steinbach, MB R5G 1P5. Arrangements by Birchwood funeral chapel 1-204-346-1030 or 1-888-454-1030
