Christena was born and raised on the family farm in Vista, Manitoba. She was a graduate in the field of Mental Health Nursing and worked at Estevan, Souris, Portage La Prairie, Russell and Winnipeg. It was at Russell that she met Robert Clark Cowan and they were married on January 30, 1947. In 1952 they moved to Winnipeg to make their home and raise their family. Mom was a quiet person, her husband and children were her greatest joy. In her later years, the love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was very apparent. She volunteered at the Red Cross and was involved with the Seniors Club. She enjoyed bowling, darts and lawn bowling. She took up the art of painting in her later years and her home was filled with many paintings. She said she found peace and solitude while painting. Mom suffered with osteoporosis and in the end, her bones would no longer support her. She said she had a hard life, but a full one. She would like to thank everyone for their kindness, friendship, love and concern.
