RUTH HAYWARD (nee HALLIDAY) Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Auntie, died Friday, December 28, 2007 at Misericordia Place, 44 Furby St. in Winnipeg. Ruth was born August 5, 1909 in Carlyle, U.K. and immigrated with her parents Francis (Pop) and Georgina Halliday to Canada when she was three years old. She wed Wm. R. (Bob) Hayward on August 6, 1927 and was a life-long resident of West Kildonan. Her husband and best friend, Bob predeceased her on April 2, 2007. Ruth is survived by her four children, Ruth Ilczuk, Doreen and Frank, Robert and Rita Hayward and George Hayward; also surviving are seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Ruth was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a volunteer visitor at Deer Lodge Hospital for many years. She was an avid bowler with Chalmer's Ladies League and a knitter for the Christmas Cheer Board for countless years. The family thanks and remembers the many Home Care personnel as well as the staff at Misericordia Place for their kindness, care and respect given to our Mother. Cremation has taken place and interment will take place at a later date for the family. If friends so desire, memorial donations in Ruth's memory may be made to the Alzheimers Society or a charity of their choice.

  • Dear Hayward family, I am so sorry for your loss. I looked forward to seeing Ruth each time I visited my father George Nick . She just seemed to brighten my day as she reached out her hands to say hello. What a kind, gentle soul. She was also my father's table mate and they were very fond of one another. I remember sharing cake with her at my father's 91st and singing songs with her family in the courtyard. Please know that my deepest sympathy goes out to your family and that you are in my thoughts. - Posted by: Colleen Nick-Johnson (Acquaintance) on: Jan 02, 2008
