MARY NIXON (nee CURRIE) 1923 - 2008 Alice Mary Roberta Nixon, widow of Russell Richard Nixon, passed away January 2, 2008. Mary was born in Brooklands, MB where she attended Brooklands and Cecil Rhodes School in Weston. Her church home was Calvary Baptist, where she was Baptised in May 1946, became actively involved within the church, and even formed a junior choir, her pride and joy. Mary's working days were spent at Bond and Ronald Candy Factory for 10 years and Eaton's for 33 years. After retiring in 1984 lasting friendships were formed and valued throughout the years, whether it was meeting at the monthly coffee parties with the retired Eatonians Club or monthly family luncheon outings that carry on with happy times and memories shared. She still found time for her many hobbies which included crafts of every description, reading, traveling Canada, US even Great Britain, researching family history, carpet bowling and bingo. Mary was a devoted wife, sister, aunt, great- aunt, and great-great-aunt. She loved her great- grandchildren and showed her love freely. Besides her beloved husband Russell who predeceased her in 1993, she was predeceased by her mother Alice (Holland), Father Douglas Currie and her brother-in-law John Benstead. Surviving to mourn are her two step-daughters Elinor (David) Sklar, Judy (Phil) Noonan, three step-grandchildren, Colleen (Kevin) Wallace, David (Mona) Sklar, Jim (Rhonda) Sklar and six great-granddaughters Ammanda, Breanna, Nettie, Hannah, Grace and Katlyn. Sisters, Doreen (Leo) Degelman, Jessie Benstead, and brother Donald (Pat) Currie; 14 nieces and nephews and their spouses, 29 great-nieces and nephews and two great-great nieces. Visitation will be held Monday, January 7 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in Klassen Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held January 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Wilcoxson conducting the service. Interment to follow in Brookside Cemetery. A special thank you to my dear friends Joan McRae, Ruth McKnight and all others who helped out, especially the great homecare girls. Donations if desired may be made out to Union Gospel Mission, or a charity of choice.
