Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDERICK SYDNEY SMITH A TRIBUTE In honour of Frederick Sydney Smith, DFC, who passed away December 30, 2007. Fred (Smithy) was born on July 7, 1917 to Mildred and Ralph Smith and raised in Meadowdale/ Selkirk, Manitoba. Dad graduated from Devonshire Collegiate in 1933 and following in his father's footsteps, joined the RCAF where he attained the level of Flight Lieutenant. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross for great gallantry in the performance of his duty while serving with the 158 Squadron of the Royal Air Force. Once retired from the Air Force, Dad was employed as a Driver Tester with the Province for a number of years where he entertained his work buddies with hair- raising tales of his flying escapades! We never tired of his childhood stories of growing up on the farm with his siblings, Orville, Edythe and Russell. He had a great adventurous spirit and loved the solitude of long nature walks along Hecla Island. He was blessed with two grandchildren, Lisa and Miles who added so much to his life. Lisa continues the flying legacy as a pilot in the NWT and Miles has inherited his grandfather's story telling, sense of humor and good looks! Dad instilled in his family, a love and respect for nature and his favourite times were spent puttering in his garden. He had a great sense of humour and was very loyal to his family. He will be fondly remembered and missed. Thanks Dad - for everything. You are in our hearts. (Debbie, Terry, Lisa and Miles)
