BARBARA FRANCES SARRASIN (nee REID) Peacefully on January 4, 2008, after a lengthy illness, Barbara Sarrasin passed away at the Foyer Valade. The daughter of Henry Reid and Lillian Hawes, Barbara was born on March 31, 1922 in Dorion, Québec. She was predeceased by her husband Léo in 1987 and four infants. She is survived by three daughters, Janelle Reynolds (Wayne) and their children, Alix and Marc, Roxane Sarrasin (Gilbert Savard) and their children, Lisbeth Savard (Drissa Dembelé), Joël Savard (Kristen Pachet) and Amélie Savard, and Sylvie Sarrasin (Gérard Boudreau) and their son Mathieu, as well as by two great-grandsons, Alexandre-Hassane Dembelé and Lo c Savard. She also leaves behind her sister Rita Dugas and five brothers, Cyril, Conrad, Laurent, William and John. She was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters. Barbara came to Manitoba from Québec in 1943 to work for the Canadian Pacific Railway. Married in 1945, she partnered with Léo in their business endeavours and later with the family farm in Lorette. Involved in many community activities, Barbara had a special interest in young women's issues. Returning to Norwood she sang with la chorale du Précieux-Sang and volunteered with seniors. She was well known by both family and friends for her culinary skill. Barbara won an award from the Manitoba Guild Association for her artistic weaving. She was a life long Spanish student and in her fifties returned to school to earn a library technician diploma. She was an avid golfer, cross-country skier, swimmer and trophy-winning bowler. Her grandchildren fondly remember weekends of cross-country skiing with her at the cottage, eating her fabulous porridge and wonderful bread. Barbara travelled the world extensively with her husband, and later with family members. Many thanks to the staff of the Foyer Valade for their compassionate care throughout many years. Special thanks to her companions over the years, Jeannette Fillion, Thérèse Fréchette, Carole Pinette and her granddaughter Amélie. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Précieux-Sang Roman Catholic Church, 200 Kenny Street. Interment will follow at the St. Boniface Cemetery.
