PETER EWCHUK Peacefully, on Friday, January 4, 2008, Peter Ewchuk entered into eternal rest at the Maples Personal Care Home. Peter will be sadly missed by his daughter Audrey (Ed Powroznik) of Gimli, MB; son Ken (Rose) of Edmonton, AB; daughter Cathy (John Polson) of Winnipeg; daughter-in-law Sheryl of St. Albert, AB. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen; son Ronald; parents William and Mary; brothers John and Frank. Peter was born in Winnipeg. He married our mother, the love of his life, in 1942 and was married 54 years prior to her passing. Dad was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather who made sure we were always cared for. He was very proud of all our accomplishments. We thank God for the additional 11 and a half years we had with Dad after Mom's passing. Dad worked for CP Railway as a carman, retiring in 1983. He was a very handy man. Be it carpentry, plumbing or electrical work, he always enjoyed the challenges of any project and was always willing to give a hand to anyone in need. His greatest accomplishment was building his family home. In the summers, Dad could be found in the backyard tending to his vegetable garden. He also took pleasure in traveling with Mom to Florida, Hawaii, Edmonton and also weekend trips across the line to the United States. Dad was a faithful and longtime member of Blessed Virgin Mary Parish. He belonged to the BVM Men's Club, Branch 141 Legion as well as the Independent Order of Foresters. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital as well as his two favourite nurses, sweeties at the Maples Personal Care Home, Marcie and Carmie for their care and compassion to Dad during the last one and a half years. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 9 at Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 965 Boyd Ave. with Fr. Volodymyr Bashutskyy officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg. Like a ship that sails into the night With heavy hearts, we say goodbye, But take comfort in knowing loved ones gone before Are there to meet you on the other side.
