MAUREEN ADAIR NICKEL (nee PROUT) After a lengthy illness, Maureen passed away peacefully, on Saturday, January 5, 2008 with her loving family by her side at the Golden West Centennial Lodge at the age of 67 years. Remaining to forever cherish Maureen's memory are her children, Carrie (Ryan), Bob (Maria), Ted (Lori) and grandchildren Anthony and Tanisha; mother Margaret; dearest friend Emily as well as extended family members and numerous friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband Edward; father Thomas and siblings, Jack and Dorie. Maureen was born April 20, 1940 in Eriksdale, Manitoba. She was raised in Thunder Bay Ontario. Maureen married the love of her life Edward on October 4, 1962 in Winnipeg. They eventually settled and raised their three children on the farm in Moosehorn Manitoba. Over the years as Edward's work moved, the family resided in Eriksdale and Lundar. After her husband's passing in 1995, Maureen then relocated to Winnipeg for her final years. A private person, Maureen was exceptionally committed and devoted to her husband and children which were her greatest source of joy in her life. She enjoyed watching and supporting her children as they participated in various sports. Maureen loved listening to her favourite music at home or attending live music or ballet performances in the park. She enjoyed being outdoors gardening and particularly growing her flowers that always made her happy. In her later years she enjoyed playing cards and making crafts with the senior group in her apartment block. Due to failing health, she spent much of her later years in numerous care facilities with extended time spent at Deer Lodge and finally Golden West Centennial Lodge. On Thursday, January 10, 2008 Maureen's funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue. The family would like to thank the many care home and health professionals that helped make her final years as comfortable as possible.
