JESSIE MYRTLE SHORT (nee WALSH) With great sorrow we watched her go. Jessie entered into rest Friday, January 4, 2008 at Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg. Jessie was born in Neepawa, MB on June 22, 1941. She grew up in the Mayfeld District and attended Bear Creek School. Jessie lived and worked first as a waitress, for Monroes, in Westbourne for the summer of 1957 and then in Winnipeg from 1957 to 1959, as a clerk and administrative assistant for the Civil Service. She then returned to Mayfeld and married Jim (James Short) on December 22, 1959 in Gladstone, MB. Jessie and Jim lived in Mayfeld for two years before moving to Helston in 1961, (Gregg) North Cypress in 1973 and finally to Carberry in October of 1990. Jessie worked the potato harvest with Mid Man farms from the mid 70's to mid 80's, and joined the staff at Davidson's Carberry, in March of 1990 where she worked until Spring of 2005. In Mayfeld and Helston Jessie was active in the community and after moving to Gregg joined the Royal Canadian Legion as well as the Royal Purple in Carberry. Jessie was a hard worker all her life. Whether she was working with her dad and the horses at home, applying herself at school, looking after her home, husband and four children or as an employee she put everything she had into everything she did. Jessie's lifelong passion where she focussed her boundless love and energy, was her family. The last years of her life were dedicated to spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, sharing with them many gifts but most especially her love and attention. She worked very hard at making those close to her feel special. Jessie's spirit, generosity and caring were felt by many and she will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. Jessie was predeceased by her father Clifford John Walsh April 1, 2000 and her mother Evelyn Hope (Reeves) Walsh September 30, 2005. She is survived by her husband Jim of Carberry; daughter Heather Short and son Michael Smith of Winnipeg, sons Richard (Dianne McCormack) Damon, Nolan and Aaron of Rainy River, ON, Mark (Heather Tole) Winnipeg, and Perry (Shannon) Dylan and Alexandra of Dealtown, ON; brothers and sisters Ray (Hertha) Brandon, MB, Lynda (George) McGinnis, Winnipeg, Patsy Walsh, Winnipeg, Laurie (Gayleen) Sioux Lookout, ON, Sherrell Walsh Brandon, and Darrell of Winnipeg; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Carberry United Church with Rev. Peggy Reid officiating. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jessie's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue Room ON1160, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9 or a charity of one's choice.
