ROY MURRAY SIMPSON Peacefully on January 10, 2008 with his family at his bedside Roy Murray Simpson passed away at the age of 61 years. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 38 years Janice (nee Wedge), daughter Colleen, son Mathew, sister Barbara (Gobert), nephews, Andrew (Lisa) and Jeffrey Jackson, brother-in-law Wayne (Angie) Wedge, nephews, Graeme (Cynthia), Curtis (Dale), Austen and Murray and their respective families. Also left to mourn is Roy's mother Marie and mother-in-law Emily Wedge. Roy was predeceased by his father Roy Brownlee Simpson, father-in-law Wilfrid Wedge, and brother-in-law Gerry Gobert. Roy was born on March 25, 1946 and grew up in St. Vital where he met Janice. They married in 1969 and had homes in Transcona, Warren, and Westwood, finally purchasing a condo in the Osborne Village area, which is where Roy always wanted to live. Roy graduated from Red River College (then M.I.T.) in 1966 and began his 35 year career with the University Of Manitoba Medical College as a Medical Photographer and Graphics Specialist with the Departments of Pharmacology (12 years) and Anatomy (23 years). Roy was a long time board representative for the University Support staff Union (AESES) and upon retirement was granted a life time membership. Roy had a strong work ethic and always maintained a high standard of work in everything he did. If you're going to do it do it right or do the best you can was Roy's motto. Roy's labour of love was their cottage at West Hawk Lake, which he had spent 20 years finishing to his high standard of workmanship. The family enjoyed many happy times and good memories out at the lake . No father was ever prouder of his two childrens' accomplishments than Roy. He always encouraged Colleen and Mathew to get a post-secondary education and he was so pleased when they achieved this goal. He always said, we are doubly blessed . Upon his retirement in 2001 Roy spent his time getting his routine set up with his feline buddy Priscilla. Roy and Jan have many fond memories of the cruises they took to Alaska, the Mexican Riviera, Pacific Northwest and Caribbean where they met many people and established friendships. The family would like to thank Dr. Elizabeth Saettler, Dr. Frank Wong, Dr. Ross Stimpson and Mona Wilfer. Grateful thanks are also extended to the staff at Unit H-3 Health Sciences Centre who helped to make Roy comfortable over the last few days. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with reception to follow. Pastor James Fritsche will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in his memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or The Winnipeg Humane Society. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 4000 PORTAGE AVENUE 885-9715.
