MARGARET A. STEVEN (nee BALL) Peacefully on January 9, 2008 at St. Boniface Hospital, Margaret Steven entered eternal rest. Marg was born September 4, 1920 in New Liskeard, Ontario and moved to Winnipeg shortly after. She attended Robert H. Smith School where she won two proficiency medals in Junior High and was active in sports and music. She received the Citizenship Award and sang at her graduation from Kelvin High School. One of her talents with which God blessed her was her love and excellence in music. She studied piano with the Royal School of Music, winning the Silver Medal for Grade VI in 1935 and the Gold Medal for Advanced Grade in 1936. She achieved her London Royal School of Music Degree in 1939. During the war she sang on radio and entertained at armed forces concerts. She met her husband, Dave, at the Winnipeg Canoe Club and married in 1943. While making their home and raising their son, she participated actively in Regent's Park United Church and was a longstanding member of the church choir. She taught piano and accompanied the Winnipeg Girls' Choir for many years, assisting with training the alto section. Marg composed and published music, sang at weddings and various other occasions and assured that music was always a part of family gatherings. In latter years she entertained at the CNIB as well as the Conquist and other personal care facilities. Marg was a member of many groups, some at her church and as a member of the Eastern Star for many years. Her generosity of time and concern for others and her deep abiding faith were hallmarks of her personality. Her constant care of Dad in his final years was an example of true love and commitment. Ill health in her later years, especially after the loss of her dear soul mate, Dave, prevented her from participating in various functions as much as she would have wished. Marg was predeceased by her parents Gladys and Robert Ball, her brother John and her beloved husband Dave in 1988. She is survived by her only son Ted (Norma), her grandchildren David (Zsuzsanna) and Susan (Sean) Leonard as well as her great-grandchildren Samantha and Aleyna Leonard and Sebastian and Christian Steven. She is also survived by her brother Bob (Ethel) of Victoria, BC, her sister-in-law Molly Ball and nephews Geoffrey, Peter and Terry and niece Nancy. The family wants to express their deep appreciation for the loving and patient care Mom received at Riverview Health Centre for the past ten years as well as the care she received from Dr. Wayne Hildahl and Dr. Gordon McKibbin. A funeral service will be held Monday, January 14, 2008 at St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Road, at 10:00 a.m.The family gratefully declines flowers and invites donations to a charity of choice in Marg's memory.
